Simon Rothman named new NMYSA Associate TD

New Mexico Youth Soccer Association is excited to announce Simon Rothman as the new Associate Technical Director at NMYSA. Simon will work alongside Bob Bigney, NMYSA Technical Director, and the rest of the NMYSA staff on the full range of NMYSA programs.

Originally from Southend, England, Simon has been an integral part of the New Mexico soccer scene since arriving in Albuquerque in 2001.

Simon also serves as a Director of Coaching for a local Albuquerque club, working with players from U5 through to U18, as well as undertaking coach education courses for staff. He has coached more than 50 players who have gone onto collegiate soccer programs as well as coaching multiple state and regional champions club teams in New Mexico.

Through NMYSA he has served as a Head Coach for ODP teams, working with players across the whole range from YOP through to ODP program, taking teams to the Regional Championships and Regional Camps. He has also worked as an instructor on NMYSA Coaching courses.

On top of his work with the youth players in New Mexico, Simon has also worked with the older elite players as an Assistant coach with Albuquerque Sol FC and for the last 3 years was a volunteer coach with the University of New Mexico men’s soccer program.

Simon earned his bachelors degree in elementary education from the University of New Mexico. He also has an impressive list of licensing credentials. He earned his USSF National A License, USSF National Youth License, and UEFA B License.

“My passion is developing players and developing coaches to develop players. Whether that’s preparing the Elite players for the next level, or developing the foundations and love of the game at the youngest level, I want to give each child the best opportunity to achieve their goals. This new role with NMYSA is a great opportunity for me to continue to help develop players and coaches across the State of New Mexico. I am thankful for the opportunity given to me by NMYSA and I am looking forward to working with all players and coaches throughout this great state.”

Bob Bigney, the Technical Director for the NMYSA, commented, “we are very happy to have Simon working for the NMYSA.  He has worked in many programs for the NMYSA over the years and is focused on the development of players and coaches in New Mexico.  We look forward to his involvement in the ODP/YOP, our Coach Development Program and other programs of the NMYSA.”

Simon will begin work for the NMYSA immediately and may be reached at the NMYSA office at (505) 830-2246 or by email at s.rothman@nmysa.net.
