Elite FD U-16 Boys regional finalists

Congratulations to the U-16 Boys Elite FC Gladiators, who reached the 2009 Far West Regional Tournament finals before losing a very close finals match 3-4 to Arsenal FC (CA-S)! We are proud of your accomplishments!

Region IV Bracket Play (June 15-17):

Elite FC Gladiators (NM) emerged from 2009 Far West Regional Tournament U-16 Boys bracket play at the top of their bracket with a record of 2-0-1 for 7 total points, outscoring their three opponents (West Coast FC (CA-S), Blue Knights Premier (UT), and WSM Remix (OR)) by a combined total of 9-1.

Region IV Quarterfinals (June 19):

In their Under-16 Boys quarterfinal match, Elite FC Gladiators (NM) defeated Cordica USA (NV) by a score of 5-0.

Region IV Semifinals (June 20):

The first 15 minutes of the Under-16 Boys semi-final game between Foothill MVLA Raptors of Cal North and New Mexico’s Elite FC Gladiators was action packed. The Gladiators’ Julio Velasquez scored one in the 3rd minute, but Foothill’s Juan Magana-Alvarez evened the score in the 8th minute. Teammate Joshual Prasad put Foothill in the lead with a 15th minute goal. Foothill thought they had the win, but Gladiators’ Nico Muniz put one away in the 80th for the 2-2 tie. With the help of his teammates, Muniz netted 84th and 92nd minute goals in overtime for Gladiators’ 4-2 victory.

Region IV Finals (June 21):

Elite FC Gladiators (NM) and Arsenal FC (CA-S) Under-16 Boys both faced tough match ups in semifinals and knew that their meeting in the finals would be no different. Arsenal opened the game with an 11th minute, Luis Fuentes goal and Gladiators’ Kevin Birchmeyer countered in the 16th minute. Gladiators took the 3-1 lead with a Ryan Hinsen 26th minute goal and Birchmeyer’s second in the 37th minute. Arsenal’s momentum changed after Nzeogwu Iwekaoguwa’s 39th and 50th minute goals. Fuentes nailed his second of the game in the 55th for the 4-3 win for Arsenal.
