Every year one male and one female referee is selected to be the NMYSA Youth Referee of the Year. These young referees are selected through input given by their local District Referee Administrators, fellow referees, administration staff and others. There are several applicants each year but only the best are selected to represent New Mexico at the Far West Regional Championships. This distinct honor is bestowed amongst those individuals who not only excel on the pitch but off the pitch, as well.
This year we are proud to announce Kerstin Shrader and Seth Gilpin as our Youth Referees of the Year. Kerstin is from Albuquerque and can be found at the fields doing games almost every weekend. She is going to be a senior this year at Rio Rancho HS where she played on the Varsity Basketball squad. Seth Gilpin is a freshmen at UNM although originally from Las Cruces. He shows that Las Cruces produces solid young referees with excellent dedication and skill.
We look forward to these two fine referees growing in the community and providing a great example for other youth referees to follow!
