|US Youth Soccer TOPSoccer (The Outreach Program for Soccer) is a community-based training and team placement program for young athletes with disabilities, organized by youth soccer association volunteers. The program is designed to bring the opportunity of learning and playing soccer to any boy or girl, who has a mental or physical disability.|
New Mexico Youth Soccer Association is excited to announce our new TOPSoccer chairperson, Rick Smith. Rick has been coaching soccer players with disabilities for 10 years. In 2000, he took on the role of Disability Officer/Coach at Millwall F.C. for the "Football in the Community" scheme. His position required him to implement, establish and maintain projects and programs that allowed individuals with disabilities from the London area an opportunity to participate in soccer and other mainstream sports. Rick worked closely with the Football Association (The F.A.) in England and local county associations to promote Disability Soccer via his professional club. In 2002, Rick was given the opportunity to pioneer Power Wheelchair Soccer, through a partnership with ASPIRE, to other professional soccer clubs and county associations across England and Scotland.
Rick holds the UEFA "A" Goalkeeping License, UEFA "B" License and the USSF "B" License. He has also received national accreditation from the Coaching Disabled Soccer Players Award, Coaching Visual and Hearing Impaired Soccer Players and most recently the US Youth Soccer Region IV TOPSoccer Symposium. Rick is a member of the NMYSA Olympic Development Program (ODP) Coaching Staff and Instructional Staff.
