LAYSL supports Japan relief effort
|LAYSL has decided to support the Red Cross' recovery efforts in Japan. On Wednesday, April 13, 2011, the entire league wore T-shirts to school that showed support for Japan after the earthquake and tsunami. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the T-shirt were donated to the Red Cross. After it was all said and done, almost $11,000 was donated to the Red Cross. We thought it would be a great way to help Japan in their time of need and teach the kids a little bit about giving back. It also was an opportunity to highlight the special relationship between Los Alamos and Japan. |
The feedback was great and it looks like the parents did a great job in communicating these life lessons to their kids. Many kids were able to talk about why they were wearing the shirts and the importance of it. Many of the kids came to Pueblo Field and took the group photo after school. Kaoru Shimada brought a poster that said "Be Strong Japan, take care of yourself" written with the help of his Mom in Japanese.
