2011 Far West Regional Tournament Champions
NM Rush Nike 94
The New Mexico Rush Nike Argonauts played in the finals of the National Championships Series (NCS) in Phoenix during the last week of July, becoming the first New Mexico team to appear in the finals since 2006. The finals of the NCS are a three game series on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The top two teams, based on results from the weekday games, then play for the national championship on Sunday. The weeklong NCS event began on Tuesday with a 1,600-person banquet at the enormous JW Marriott Resort in Scottsdale. The banquet honors the 60+ teams at the NCS and kicks off the week of games with video highlights of every team and every regional tournament.
On the pitch, the Argonauts started fast on Wednesday night as Ben Brennan scored the first goal of the tournament against the Penn Fusion Celtic, quickly into the first half. Unfortunately, the Argos’ goal-scoring punch then disappeared and they were outscored 7-0 the remainder of the week. NM Rush outplayed Dallas Texans on Friday, but the Texans goalkeeper had a tremendous game and Texans snuck in a late goal to win 1-0. On Sunday, Penn Fusion lost the national championship game to Grand Rapids Crew Juniors.
Isaiah Madrid was named to the Best 11 for the event. The Best 11 is chosen by group coaches and team representatives in each age/gender group and represents the top players in each group.
NMYSA congratulates the Argonauts on a great spring season in 2011. NM Rush qualified for Far West Regionals through the Far West Regional League, then won the FWR with a very impressive 6-0 record to qualify for the finals in Phoenix.

Finals: Rush Nike 94 (NM) knocked La Roca Premier 94 (UT) out of last year's quarterfinals before losing in the semis. In 2011, the result was the same but the stakes were higher as Rush used an 82nd minute goal to take the U-17 Boys regional crown 2-1. Rush went ahead in the 13th on a strike from Charles Klepac, but La Roca leveled just five minutes later thanks to Parker Dixon. Both teams cancelled each other out until Isaiah Madrid knocked in the winner with eight minutes to play and the Rush defense held strong to deliver the trophy.
